This course is the first of a six-part course stream that focuses on the student's ability to further develop and correctly utilize American Sign Language. Course study will include ASL grammar and syntax, as well as linguistic contrastive analysis between ASL and English grammatical structures. Vocabulary enhancement will be infused throughtout the course and will include social and basic economics vocabulary. An introduction of ASL variations, regional signs and linguistic influences from social, ethnic, gender, age and education will also be taught and analyzed.
