Interior Design students hope to raise money for Downtown Mission | St. Clair College

The president of St. Clair’s Interior Design Club, Kailey Kovacs, is starting a local fundraiser to support the Windsor Downtown Mission.

Inspiration for this fundraiser came from the annual Interior Design Educators Council National Competition. The competition chooses a subject to tackle every year. The objective last year was to create a Welcome Centre for people  experiencing homelessness.

"This encouraged us to focus research on homeless shelters, what daily life is like for those experiencing homelessness and what encourages people to use resources like The Downtown Mission," said Kovacs. "The Downtown Mission was gracious enough to give us a tour of their facility last year to see firsthand what our design should and should not have."

Being the leader of the Interior Design Club, Kovacs wanted to give back to her community in a way that would support the local homeless population in Windsor. The club is hoping for donations of $5 to convert into Tim Hortons gift cards of the same value. These gift cards will be handed out to members of the mission looking for a hot meal or drink. Moreover, The Interior Design Club will be matching any donation received until they reach their limit of $500.

"This year has been so stressful for everyone, and we want to put a smile on someone's face in our community by allowing them to enjoy a warm drink on a cold day," Kovacs said.
