County students requiring public transportation to St. Clair College now have access to a new transit service that runs from Leamington to the college’s main campus on Talbot Road West.

The Leamington to Windsor Transit service, LTW Transit - Route 42, began operation Monday, July 8, with stops in Kingsville and Essex. It runs Monday to Saturday.

Ten and 30-day passes will be available for sale and recharge in the SRC Office at the college’s South Campus.

"I'm confident that county-based students will be thrilled with this new transportation option," said St. Clair President Patti France. "For many, it will eliminate the expense of buying a car, for others it will solve the scheduling difficulties associated with borrowing a family car. At the most fundamental level – a method of getting from Point A to Point B – it makes access to postsecondary education so much more convenient and affordable. The college commends all of the county and city agencies which have launched this initiative."

Fares for the service are $10 for a one-way trip or $15 for a round-trip (same day only). A 30-day pass is available for $250. Transit cards are available for purchase at the average price of $7.50 per ride (i.e. a 10 ride pre-loaded card costs $75, 30 rides costs $225).

LTW Transit is a four-year pilot project, undertaken by the Municipality of Leamington in partnership with Transit Windsor, with financial support from the Ministry of Transportation. Strong transit ridership and a successful outcome at the end of the pilot project could lead to the permanent continuation of regional transit and the potential expansion of the service.
