More than 2,000 new students showed up for orientation this week to prepare for the start of classes Tuesday.

The Student Life Centre was filled to capacity for each of the two daily frosh sessions Tuesday through Thursday, with more than 600 students showing up to the Chatham campus on Wednesday. The Chrysler Theatre was also packed on Friday with students attending the downtown campus.

Students met their SRC representatives, their SAA leaders and some of their faculty, before heading off to explore the campuses.

The classic gym was a beehive of activity, with late registrations being taken, parking passes sold and swag bags handed out by the SAA.

While exact numbers won’t be known until mid-September, student enrolment this year will be close to 12,000.

SRC president Kiara Clement said she spoke to several nervous first-year students about college life and what to expect during the first few weeks of classes. "Our advice to them is to trust the process and lean on the support they need, especially student council. We are here for them and if they ever need anything, they can stop us in the hallway and we will guide them with whatever they need."
