St. Clair College Baseball Take 4 in TO
(Toronto, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team ran their record to 6-2 with a 4-game sweep in Toronto this weekend with doubleheader wins over Seneca College (North York) on Saturday at Bishop’s Cross Park and George Brown College at Christie Pits Park on Sunday.
The Saints were 12-2 and 17-1 winners over Seneca Saturday with Micah Harris (Cottam, ON) and Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) each earning a win on the mound. Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) each had 4 hits in the doubleheader to pace the St. Clair offensive attack.
St. Clair were 13-0 winners in the opener Sunday over George Brown but managed a 4-2 win in the final game to complete the weekend. Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) got the win on the mound in the opener giving up 4 hits in 5 innings while striking out 9 batters. Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) and Miguel Cienfuegos each had a home run in the first game. Michael Beale (Windsor, ON/WF Herman) was the Saints pitching winner in the final game spreading out 7 hits over 5 innings with Roberto Duncan (Panama City, Panama) hitting a round tripper for insurance late.
St. Clair College Softball Sweep 6 Games on Weekend
(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team finished their home stand a perfect 6-0 sweeping doubleheaders from Mohawk College (Hamilton) on Friday before taking a pair from Conestoga College (Kitchener) on Saturday and Durham College (Oshawa) on Sunday. This moves the Saints into 1st Place in the OCAA standings with a 10-2 overall record.
Saints pitcher Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) pitched a complete game 3-hitter Friday night in a 2-0 win and received run support from Jordyn Clark (Leamington, ON) and Megan Lumley (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who both drove in a run. In the nightcap Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) picked up the win in the mercy shortened affair as St. Clair banged out 14 hits in the 11-1 victory.
On Saturday St. Clair played only 5 innings to pick up another 11-1 mercy win with a 17-hit attack over Conestoga. Megan Lumley, Jordan Taylor (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and Rya Cowan (Lasalle, ON/Sandwich) each had 3 hits with Olivia Elliott surrendering no hits in 4 innings of work on the pitching rubber. The Saints needed to come from behind in the second game for the 11-7 win with Lumley and Cowan each notching 3 hits again.
St. Clair took another pair of games Sunday from Durham with 2-1 and 8-5 verdicts. Elliott pitcher herself to her 3rd win of the weekend in the opener while Stiller picked up 3rd win on the mound to cap the doubleheader sweep.
St. Clair College Men's Cross Country Start Season with Gold in London
(London, Ontario) - In their first event of the season on Saturday the St. Clair College Men’s Cross Country team were dominant taking the team title at the 22nd Annual Fanshawe College Invitational held at the Fanshawe Conservation Area in London.
The St. Clair Men’s team were led by 2nd year runner Ricky Nepomuceno (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who finished in the Silver Medal position after completing the 8km loop in a time of 27:20 in a field of 76 runners. Other finishers for the Saints Men were Andre Tomasian (8th Place, 28:21), Tyler Tofflemire (11th Place, 28:51), Thador Tekhli (14th Place, 29:15), and Jack Porter (32nd Place, 31:58). The Men’s team accomplished this team title without 2017 OCAA Provincial Silver Medalist and All-Canadian Tyler Jones who did not finish the race due to injury.
The Saints Women’s team finished in 8th Place out of the 9 OCAA teams registered in the 6km race. St. Clair was led by Nicole Desrosiers-Michienzi (Essex, ON/Essex District) who turned in a 25th Place finish in a time of 27:56. She was followed closely by Jessica Hodgkin (26th Place, 28:05), Samantha Boussey (27th Place, 28:15), and Aryana Cirino (28th Place, 28:29). Hannah Cirino (34th Place, 29:19) and Beth Horrobin (35th Place, 29:24) were the other finishers for the St. Clair women in a field of 60 runners.
