St. Clair College Men’s Basketball Shut Down Conestoga

(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Men’s Basketball team played well down the stretch in a 94-70 win over Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex. The Saints are now 2-1 in the West Division standings and currently sit at #8 in the OCAA’s most recent ranking.

Conestoga was ready out of the gate but the Saints quickly made amends to take a 24-13 lead entering the second quarter. Conestoga then outscored St. Clair 26-17 in the second quarter and only trailed 41-39 at the halftime intermission. In the second half the Saints fell behind 45-43 early but used an 18-2 run to seize back control. With a 65-55 entering the fourth quarter St. Clair allowed Conestoga to get within 5 points (68-63) before scoring 11 unanswered as part of a 19-2 run that put the game out of reach. The Saints converted 50% from the field and held Conestoga to 40% shooting in the game.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) shrugged off a slow start to score 21 of his game high 24 points in the second half to lead St. Clair in the win adding 6 assists. Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) was almost as impressive scoring 23 points to go with 5 rebounds for the Saints.

Brandon Simon (Scarborough, ON) scored 18 points for Conestoga in the loss.

The St. Clair Men’s Basketball team continue their regular season schedule on the road Tuesday at Fanshawe College (London) at 8:00pm.

St. Clair College Women’s Basketball Top Conestoga

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team moved their record to 2-1 in the OCAA’s West Division with an 80-48 home court victory over Conestoga College (Kitchener) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.

The Lady Saints wasted no time in this game running up a 29-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 52-22 advantage by the break shooting 55% from the field going into the locker room. Conestoga outplayed St. Clair in the third quarter winning the frame 17-13 but the damage was done as the Saints were ahead by as much as 34 points down the stretch cruising to the lopsided win. St. Clair scored 25 points off 28 Conestoga turnovers and owned the paint scoring 34 points around the basket.

2nd year Saints guard Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) led all scorers with 19 points adding 7 assists to go with 4 steals. St. Clair point guard Anna Ulicny (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) made four triples on her way to 14 points adding 7 assists of her own. Rookie players Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) and Hayley Firr (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) also reached double figures for the Saints scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

Ramla Abdalla (Waterloo, ON) had 12 points for Conestoga in the loss.
