St. Clair College Women’s Basketball Dominate Mohawk
(Windsor, Ontario) - The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team earned a 90-43 runaway victory over Mohawk College (Hamilton) Friday night at the SportsPlex. The Lady Saints are now 4-1 in the OCAA’s West Division.
Mohawk was up 9-8 in the early stages until the Saints used a 20-2 run to close the first quarter up 28-11. From that point St. Clair never looked back scoring 34 points off 29 Mohawk turnovers. The Saints held a 48-21 lead at the intermission and were up 68-29 entering the fourth quarter where 11 of 14 dressed hit the score sheet. In fact St. Clair outmatched Mohawk 42-6 in bench scoring.
1st year player Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) came off the bench to score 17 points for St. Clair which included three long bombs. Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON), Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) and Keirsten Tomkins (Sarnia, ON) each also reached double figures scoring 13 points apiece for the Saints.
St. Clair College Men’s Basketball Outscore Niagara
(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Basketball team salvaged a weekend split and bounced back from Friday’s double overtime loss with a 108-101 victory over nationally ranked Niagara College (Welland) at the SportsPlex Saturday afternoon. With the win the Saints evened their record to 3-3 in the OCAA’s West Division.
St. Clair was dialed in from the start opening a 32-22 advantage after the opening quarter. Niagara responded well and tied the game before St. Clair recovered for a slim 53-49 lead going into the half. The Saints stretched that into an 81-71 cushion entering the fourth quarter and although Niagara made it a 6-point ball game (103-97) in the final minute the result was in hand. St. Clair made it count from the line in this game converting 87% as opposed to Niagara who only managed 63% from the charity stripe.
David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) had another strong game scoring 32 points and fashioned 7 assists to help teammate Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) score 30 points to go with 10 rebounds in his double-double performance. Nik Veigli (Cottam, ON/Essex District) had one of his best games of the season with an efficient 11 points off the Saints bench adding 4 assists.
Women's Volleyball Improve to 5-1
(Sudbury, Ontario) – The St. Clair women’s volleyball team was on the road this weekend to take on Cambrian College and College Boreal in Sudbury. The Saints came away with two solid wins.
On Saturday, St. Clair defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield by a score of 3-1. Set scores were 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16. Middle Kiana Gelissen (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) had a great match with 6 kills, 4 service aces and 4 stuff blocks. Jessica Masse (Cottam; Essex District) chipped in with 7 kills, 2 service aces and 4 stuff blocks.
On Sunday the Saints took down the College Boreal Viperes 3-0. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10, and 25-15. Sam Gerbig (Charlottetown; Exploits Valley High) led the way offensively for St. Clair with 6 kills on 13 attacks, 6 service aces, 1 stuff block and 3 digs.
With the two wins the Saints record improved to 5-1 on the season. St. Clair is ranked 2nd in Ontario and 10th in Canada.
St. Clair Men's Volleyball Get in Win Column
(Sudbury, Ontario) – The St. Clair men’s volleyball team was on the road this weekend to take on Cambrian College and College Boreal in Sudbury. The Saints came away with two big wins to earn their first two victories of the season.
On Saturday, St. Clair defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield by a score of 3-1. Set scores were 21-25, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15. Frankie Friesen (Staples; Tilbury District) had a big match offensively with 14 kills on 22 attacks, 2 service aces, 3 stuff blocks and 7 digs. Michael Knight (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) also had a solid game with 13 kills, 4 service aces and 1 stuff block.
On Sunday, the Saints took down the College Boreal Viperes 3-1. Set scores were 25-13, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-15 . Knight led the way offensively for St. Clair with 10 kills on 17 attacks, 5 service aces, 2 stuff blocks and 4 digs. Shane Way (Belle River; St. Anne’s) also chipped in with 8 kills, 2 service aces and 6 digs.
With the two wins the Saints record improved to 2-4 on the season.
