(Windsor, Ontario) - In the competitive world of internship hunting, St. Clair College Media Convergence students Angelica Haggert and Alyssa Horrobin, are headed to CBC in Toronto for six week-long internships. Haggert will be working on the ‘News Network’ program and Horrobin will be working on the radio show ‘Fresh Air’.

St. Clair College only recently got approved for internships with CBC, making this the first year that students will have this great learning opportunity. Four students were recommended and Haggert and Horrobin were both selected.

“It was unprecedented for all four of the students we recommended to be called for an interview. It never happens to any journalism school. The key is our multi-platform programming which newsrooms demand today,” said MediaPlex Coordinator Veronique Mandal.

Horrobin and Haggert will hit the ground running as full reporters, transferring the skills they learned at the College to one of Canada’s biggest news platforms.

“At the MediaPlex we do a ton, but we don’t ever work at the pace that the real world works at,” said Haggert. “I think this internship will really help me to get accustomed to the pace as well as introduce me to a lot of people. It will open a lot of doors.”

The Media Convergence program, offered in downtown Windsor at the MediaPlex, is a one year certificate program that offers a multi-platform education that gives students the tools needed to compete in the constantly changing and challenging journalism and communications field.
