This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of issues related to the needs and dynamics of dying and grieving persons. The course addresses individual, social, and cultural perspectives about death and grieving across the lifespan. Special emphasis is placed on grief and end of life care, including key concepts of palliative care, for older persons and their care givers. Students will explore personal loss and their own attitudes toward death and dying as a means of supporting positive modeling of healthy and adaptive grief responses and overall integration of course content.
