This is the first of a series of three courses which utilizes an office simulation model so that students can practically develop and apply the skills of a paralegal and manage the practice. The course emphasis is on written and oral legal communications, time management and file systems, including docketing and reminder systems. Professional conduct issues are integrated throughout the course, including a focus on confidentiality, civility, professionalism and appreciation of the scope of paralegal practice. Through role-play exercises, students will be introduced to effective client interview skills. A reflective journal is maintained in this series of courses.
