This course will outline the process of analyzing and designing a new network or designing a network upgrade. There are five distinct phases involved in the design process of a network of which any or all can be applied to any network. The course will concentrate on the first four phases of the network design process; Requirements Gathering Traffic Analysis Logical Design and Physical Design. The fifth phase Installation and Maintenance will not be a focus of the course. Through lecture students will gain a theoretical understanding of the components of the course. Practical exercises will be used wherever possible to reinforce such learning.
