This course introduces students to conventional engine technology. A major focus will be on current automotive ICEs and power generation engine systems. Spark ignition and compression ignition technologies will be discussed in terms of both practical components and operation along with theoretical cycles/modeling. Major engine subsystems and controls will be covered which include such aspects as fuel/air mixture development, ignition processes, instrumentation and control, emissions.
