An introduction to the fabric industry and the main components of textiles: fibre, yarn, fabric, construction, colour application and fabric finishes. A focus on natural and manufactured fabrics will be explored and analyzed using burn and chemical tests. Students will learn the process of how to choose the appropriate fabric to best suit a design. Students will explore textile colouration, methods and advances in the print industry. The influence of the eco-friendly movement on textiles will be discussed. The performance and care of textiles will be discussed along with industry laws and regulations pertaining to labeling and care instructions.
